Malevolent Creation: Invidious dominion

07/10/10  ||  Habakuk

Man, I love Malevolent Creation. Yeah, if a review starts out like this on GD, that is mostly a sign to be watchful of hidden hints – does the reviewer in question actually not like the album at hand as much as his first impression might imply? A trap, thus? Or is he just another raving metal reviewer that honestly loves the shit out of heavy shit and by chance started typing instead of jacking off? No, it’s a trap, obviously. This album ain’t too great. I do love a lot of Malevolent Creation’s stuff from almost all stages of their career, no doubt about it. However, recently they’ve gone downhill a bit, as everyone was able to hear on “Doomsday X” which was a bit of a non-starter. I didn’t even like “Warkult” too much, let alone “The will to kill”, but “Doomsday” was another step below that. So, in 2010, the line-up revolving door has spun some more and Fasciana and the boys bring us another effort called “Invidious dominion”.

But wait – the modern world with all its wonders has brought us the Internet. Which means you have all the information you need at your fingertips. You do not have to listen to one puny reviewer any more. Who’s he to preach the word anyway, just because he’s sitting at home in his loser room, disappointed that his beloved band doesn’t do what he wants them to do anymore? Why not check out what our other customers had to say?

“I purchased this and it was delivered within two days. Not happy with the product, though. The backcover lists 11 songs, I only found three! One of those was an intro that was a complete waste of space, the other one was “Corruptor”, and that one was pretty good! The third song was about 31 minutes long and consisted of about three riffs and blast beats. At least I got no trouble returning it. So, two stars for the service!”

“I bought this for my grandson. He loves the Transformers! He’s very happy with the looks of it.”

“Fits perfectly into my frantic screams collection, although I have heard longer and more terrifying examples. But that’s something you always have to consider when you’re buying oldies. Four stars.”

DeathMetalCanadian
“Mispurchase. I only looked at the cover and mistook it for “In dark purity”.

“The CD is very good if you’re a fan of Heavy Metal Music. Sorry for my English”

Yeah exactly. Feel smarter now? Next task: separate the wheat from the chaff. Now ain’t that a hassle, relying on your heuristics again? Despair not – here’s where the GD-proofed Opinion Of Truth™ comes into play, laid out for in easily digestible information chunks:

+ Better than Doomsday X
+ Brett Hoffmann
+ A few good riffs
+ Alright production
+ Corruptor

- In the style of “The will to kill”
- Lack of variety
- Abundance of one-dimensional blasting
>> Buy if you’re a fan or need something to not attentively listen to.

Refreshingly effective way of staying in the know, dontcherthink? Now quick, on to the next review! Those stocks aren’t gonna trade themselves.
